brand alert: forfex

I can’t remember how I first came across Forfex but I felt that as I feel now, disappointed that I haven’t got man-sized feet to shove into the amazing and creative shoes. Now stocked by Opening Ceremony you can guarantee they’ll be gracing the trotters of all the cool NYC hipsters. Using interesting fabrics, stains , studs and patterns there’s sure to be a pair that would suit almost any taste.

Gentlemen – add them to your christmas/anniversary/birthday list. Ladies – try wearing a few pairs of socks and a few thick insoles to see if you can get them to fit!

Spring Pastels

I’m not usually a pastel (or floral, for that matter) sort of person. My wardrobe consists of monochrome and metallics, mostly.

Whilst i’m not usually too trend driven in my sartorial choices either, i’m beginning to dig the pastel trend after my recent foray into florals. I’ve been scouring Pinterest for inspiration, and there are some great ways of getting into pastels without looking like a Stepford wife!

kate moss – w mag march 2012

My friend bought W recently for her artist boyfriend who likes to draw inspiration from high profile editorials.

Flicking through it I thought I recognised the cover star & model in one of the shoots & it took me a few minutes to realise it was Kate Moss. I’m a Kate fan, but I often grow weary of the media hype surrounding her skinny jeans and rockstar husband, so I was happy to see this & remember that above all she’s a bloody great model.

Check out the rest of the shoot here. Shot by Steven Klein, natch.

i am wearing clothes

I’m loving collars underneath things at the moment. I always love leopard print and gold anyway. This navy Zara tunic once had delicate chiffon sleeves, but as with a lot of Zara items they soon started to fray, so I lobbed them right off at the shoulder.

I wore this while most of the rest of the country were in flip-flops (don’t get me started) and tank tops. Guys, it’s warm, but it’s not THAT warm.

I don’t think my wardrobe changes much from winter to summer, the addition or subtraction of some opaque tights here, a wooly hat there.

Jeans – Topshop | Tunic – Zara | Blouse – Old Navy | Beaten up boots – flea market, originally Office | Necklace – Topshop | Spike ring – Forever 21

girlcrush #grimes

A lot of my favourite things seem to come from Canada – Chromeo, Trailer Park Boys, Mountain Dew, Ryan Gosling and now Grimes.

I am so excited about seeing her play at Forbidden Fruit Festival in Dublin this summer. Not only am I a fan of her music, but her style too – a little bit 80’s electro, a little bit riot grrrl, a little bit grunge.

If it wasn’t for that pesky day job i’d have a lilac 50’s fringe in the morning!

Check out her clothes in the video for Oblivion –  obsessed with the gold & black hoodie and the huge sailor style collars.

Pour myself a cup of ambition

This is a regular working day outfit for me. I’m currently working a fulltime job with college one evening a week and volunteering for a charity. It’s all go!

As much as I love fashion and am beginning to really get to grips with my style, some days it takes a lot of effort to wear something stylish over something comfortable. But why can’t a work outfit be both? Especially on the long days when I go from work to college. My work wardrobe is quite different from my casual, off-duty wardrobe so I do feel a bit of a chameleon. Here’s a typical work-college outfit.

Pleated pleather skirt – Primark, Blouse – Asos, Sequinned slippers – Asos, Tights – M&S (ALWAYS M&S tights)

You’ll have to excuse the shoddy iphone pictures – the last photo is from ASOS, the painstaking photo-from-behind shot is a bit of a waste of space in fairness!
