brand alert: forfex

I can’t remember how I first came across Forfex but I felt that as I feel now, disappointed that I haven’t got man-sized feet to shove into the amazing and creative shoes. Now stocked by Opening Ceremony you can guarantee they’ll be gracing the trotters of all the cool NYC hipsters. Using interesting fabrics, stains , studs and patterns there’s sure to be a pair that would suit almost any taste.

Gentlemen – add them to your christmas/anniversary/birthday list. Ladies – try wearing a few pairs of socks and a few thick insoles to see if you can get them to fit!

Spring Pastels

I’m not usually a pastel (or floral, for that matter) sort of person. My wardrobe consists of monochrome and metallics, mostly.

Whilst i’m not usually too trend driven in my sartorial choices either, i’m beginning to dig the pastel trend after my recent foray into florals. I’ve been scouring Pinterest for inspiration, and there are some great ways of getting into pastels without looking like a Stepford wife!

kate moss – w mag march 2012

My friend bought W recently for her artist boyfriend who likes to draw inspiration from high profile editorials.

Flicking through it I thought I recognised the cover star & model in one of the shoots & it took me a few minutes to realise it was Kate Moss. I’m a Kate fan, but I often grow weary of the media hype surrounding her skinny jeans and rockstar husband, so I was happy to see this & remember that above all she’s a bloody great model.

Check out the rest of the shoot here. Shot by Steven Klein, natch.

girlcrush #grimes

A lot of my favourite things seem to come from Canada – Chromeo, Trailer Park Boys, Mountain Dew, Ryan Gosling and now Grimes.

I am so excited about seeing her play at Forbidden Fruit Festival in Dublin this summer. Not only am I a fan of her music, but her style too – a little bit 80’s electro, a little bit riot grrrl, a little bit grunge.

If it wasn’t for that pesky day job i’d have a lilac 50’s fringe in the morning!

Check out her clothes in the video for Oblivion –  obsessed with the gold & black hoodie and the huge sailor style collars.

Charlotte Gainsbourg for Balenciaga

From the fashion vault, yes. Regardless of how old it is it’s still an ad that I love. I’m so intrigued by Charlotte, with Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin for parents, why wouldn’t you be intrigued?

Does denim do it for you? Apart from still being obsessed with skinny jeans, I’ve recently found an affinity for denim shirts. Grungey, basic old denim shirts.

A staple in the 90’s, usually worn baggy and slightly grubby over leggings and an oversized tshirt. But now denim shirts can look chic when teamed with a bold print skirt or teamed with some blingy jewels.
Wear it buttoned up to the top or buttoned down and low-cut.
Here’s a few of my favourite denim shirt looks.

Denim & Opaques

Such a classic autumn/winter staple. I love the cute collar of the shirt peeking out over the knit.

This is a look i’ll be recreating over & over during the colder months. Hello 200 denier tights from Primark!!

Alison Mosshart Forever

She’s my modern day Chrissie Hynde. I want to dress like her always.
